A MISCELLANY…

Many of Jon’s older pieces for theatre were live and ephemeral or unrecorded, but there are a few piecemeal rediscoveries on old formats, from minidisc to DAT to revox tape.

THE SIGNALMAN [2019]

Glasgow / Edinburgh writer Peter Arnott

dir Ken Alexander A Play, A Pie & A Pint / Traverse

This is a composite track of some of the music and underscore from this one-man, one-act play which premiered at Oran Mor in Glasgow and won 3 awards in the 2020 CATS awards. It was re-staged at Perth Theatre in September 2021.

I GOT YOU REMIX [2004 / 2019]

This is a mash-up of a wedding march for Titania and Bottom’s exit from a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Nottingham Playhouse, and the final wedding scene and credits for I Got You, a comedy-crime caper for Gateway Films, a production by Queen Margaret University students at the erstwhile Gateway Theatre on Leith Walk, Edinburgh. Hints of Widor’s Toccata meets a B3 Hammond and pizzicato strings…. Thanks to our friend RJ who remixed and re-edited the track, which Ali and I used as our wedding recessional in 2019.

HOPETOUN [1999]

Again written for QMU students, a soap opera theme commissioned by Maggie Kinloch for a series of student shorts, filmed around and about the Gateway Theatre.

THE GRAPES OF WRATH [1994]

Dundee / Scotland / London writer John Steinbeck adaptation Frank Gelati

dir Iain Reekie 7:84 Theatre Company

Jon’s first commission, this is probably from a recording at London’s Shaw Theatre. The large cast included Anne Kidd, Gary Lewis, Paul Meade, Matthew Pidgeon, Janet Dye and, to the fore on guitar, Alan McHugh.
